dredyearsafterthejourney.WhatdoesthatPipemeanforthenext140yearsheasked.OnanothernoteDukeWelterWesternGreatLakesconservationcoordinatorforTroutUnlimitedtalkedabouthisinvolve-mentinstrugglestosavehabitatinthepast.HismessageechoedmanyofthoserelatedbyAdaDeerformerAssistantSecretaryoftheInteriorwhotalkedaboutorganizingeffectivelytocreatechange.BothWelterandDeersawdiversein-terestscomingtogethertowardsonecauseasempoweringhoweverWeltercautionedthatthemessagesbeclearanddisciplined.Getyourmessagetogetheronethatresonateswithyouraudience.RefineyourmessageDonthavedamagingthrow-awaycomments.Deerremindedpeopleoftheirpersonalpowertoachievegoalsandwarnedperseverancewasnecessarythroughthelongprocessesthatarepartofcreatingchange.Youhavetobethereknowtheprocessandpayattention.Youneedahawkshesaid.Sherecom-mendedformingcoalitionsusingsocialmediaandPReventsmobilizingthetourismindustryandusingfederalrelationshipsandagenciessuchastheEnvironmentalProtectionAgencytheArmyCorpsofEngineersandtheBureauofIndianAffairs.ThesummitwassponsoredbythePenokeeHillsEducationProjectandLacCourteOreillesHarvestEducationProjectformerlyHarvestCamp.
