The Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission hosted a working conference on aquatic invasive species October 19 & 20, 2005 in Lac du Flambeau, WI to enhance regional cooperation and collaboration. The conference brought together Federal, State, Tribal, and County government personnel, as well as Lake Association leaders, volunteer coordinators, and other non-government entities from Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin involved in protecting regional waters from aquatic invasive species.

The first day of the conference was devoted to sharing information about ongoing activities, available resources, and unmet needs. The following morning, conference participants were separated into small break-out groups to brainstorm new strategies for improving cooperation among different agencies, jurisdictions, and governments. The topics covered in each breakout session included: cooperation & collaboration, research, monitoring, and education.
